Oversea Service Learning

Sec 3 Overseas Service Learning Journeys 2015

Faith 3-1, Faith 3-2 and Hope 3-2

During the June holidays, three of our Sec 3 classes spent 3 days 2 nights in Batam, Indonesia for their Overseas Service Learning trip. They started preparations months ahead of the learning journeys, firstly by raising funds for the beneficiaries. They were allowed to decide on the fund-raising activities for the class, according to their creativity, skills and resources. With the funds raised, they were able to bless their counterparts in the foreign countries by meeting a specific need. It was heartening for our students to witness that the funds they raised through perseverance and teamwork was able to bless the students and orphans in Batam and Indonesia.

On top of that, the Sec 3 students also planned many lessons and activities to teach the students and orphans. The positive learning attitude of these children in the face of their harsh learning environments has touched many of our Sec 3 students and made them reflect on their own learning attitude back in school. Indeed, our students cannot deny that they do live in much better conditions with better facilities.

Finally, through the students’ daily reflections, it is clear that they not only enjoyed their time with the children, they also discovered both their strengths and weaknesses, and grew in confidence and in their appreciation of life. We believe that the character they developed and the values they learned in those few days will accompany them in the years ahead.
