2024 DSA Application
INTRODUCTION
Primary 6 students may seek Direct School Admission into Geylang Methodist School (Secondary) before the Secondary 1 Posting Exercise in 2024, for year of study in 2025.
Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent. Students who are successfully admitted to the school via DSA are expected to honour their commitment to the school and participate in the activities related to the talent they are selected for from year 1 to 4/5.

(1) Badminton for boys and girls (Talent area: Sports and games)
Our badminton team has been placed among the top 8 schools over the years in the highly competitive East Zone Inter-school tournaments. With the guidance from our dedicated coach and teachers, we strive to create a dynamic environment for our students to continually push limits and develop their physical as well as mental fortitude.
Shortlisted candidates will be assessed on their agility and ability to execute movement, clear and smash.
(2) Volleyball for boys only (Talent area: Sports and games)
Our volleyball boys have performed well in the national school games, emerging top 4 in the East Zone since 2010. Our B division team came in 7th in the Nation in 2023 and our C division boys came in 2nd in the East Zone Volleyball Championships in 2022. We strive to nurture our players to be tenacious, gracious and respectful students.
Shortlisted candidates will be assessed on their athletic skills and agility.
(3) Chinese Dance for girls only (Talent area: Performing arts)
The Chinese Dance group has consistently done well, winning the Certificate with Distinction in the 2019, 2021 and 2023 SYF competitions. Students in the Chinese Dance group are confident, passionate, and committed. They are exposed to various dance cultures and are disciplined and motivated to do their best for every performance.
Shortlisted candidates will be assessed on their technical skills and flexibility.
(4) Science for Sustainable Development for boys and girls (Talent area: Science)
This is GM’s Applied Learning Programme and adopts a contextualized approach, exploring Sustainability with unique programmes for Sec 1 to 3. Lower Sec students will be exposed to research and inquiry, investigative experiments and oral presentations. Sec 3 students collaborate with industry partners and past projects include collaboration with NJC on Alternative Farming / Urban Farming research projects. Students will be assessed on their passion and the quality of their portfolio which should include a write-up on their experience as a member of Science-related CCA/activities (e.g. research, investigative projects and presentation), records of participation/awards in STEM-related competitions.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Application for DSA-Sec can be submitted through the online DSA-Sec Portal. The application is free-of-charge and will be open from 7 May 2024, 11 am to 3 Jun 2024, 3 pm. For more details, please refer to the MOE website – www.moe.gov.sg/dsa-sec
ADMISSIONS CRITERIA
In considering students for direct school admission into GMS(S), we look for ability and potential, as well as positive character traits.
Applicants should possess the following:
(i) Consistent and good conduct in school.
(ii) Aptitude or good performance/achievement in Badminton (boys and girls), Volleyball (boys only), Chinese Dance (girls only) and Science for Sustainable Development (boys and girls). For example, experience in SYF competitions, zonal and national competitions, or any relevant achievements and experience in related areas.
(iii) Consistent academic performance.
SELECTION PROCESS
After you have submitted your DSA application, the school will review the application and shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
(i) Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an in-person selection and interview.
